The Great Lakes Fishery Trust (GLFT) is now accepting proposals under its Great Lakes Stewardship grant program. Through this request for proposals (RFP), the GLFT invites proposals focused on place-based stewardship education (PBSE). PBSE is a method of teaching and learning that extends the walls of the classroom into the local community and landscape through experiential, hands-on learning for studying natural, built, and social environments. Proposals are due by Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. EST, and must be submitted through the GLFT website. Please note the next Great Lakes Stewardship PBSE RFP is scheduled to open in the 2027 program year.

This funding program will increase awareness and understanding of the ecology of the Great Lakes, enabling residents to serve as stewards and advocate for strategies that support the long-term sustainability of Great Lakes fisheries. Priority will be given to projects focusing on Lake Michigan and its stewardship, by Michigan residents. This RFP will be used for the disbursement of up to $500,000 in grants in 2025.

The GLFT updated its priorities and schedule for its Great Lakes Stewardship 2025 grant program’s strategic plan. Following a process different than previous years, we intend to issue a second RFP later in 2025 requesting proposals to support fishing education.

The GLFT held a webinar with information for potential grantees on December 10, 2024. Watch the webinar here.
